3 U-turns and all is great

My lovely daughter-in-law

My lovely daughter-in-law

I spent the day with Erin (23 year old daughter-in-law) and Addyson (two year old granddaughter).  They arrived at the house at noon.  I heard the doorbell from my sleep but could not bring myself to get out of bed.  On the second ring, I asked Sue (our housekeeper) to get the door.  The next thing I hear is a very happy Addy say “Grandma?”  Of course, I must arrise from the comfort of my bed to see my girls.

I ate some yogurt and took a pain pill and promptly got very nauseaous.  Terrible feeling.  After my quick breakfast, I got out the phone book and made several phone calls to tire companies.  Erin’s car really needs new tires.  They have to air up the tire before they can drive home.  Slow leaks are no good! The best deal goes to Ray’s Tire.  We were able to get a set of tires out the door for less than $250 cash.  I like cash.  The “Mom and Pop” businesses are often staffed with an owner, so its easy to get a deal.  Ray himself answered our telephone inquiry.  When Erin arrived to the store, the lady sales clerk tried to charge more than Ray had quoted.  Ray’s voice booms across the room to correct the price before Erin could protest.  “I told her $50.”  Very nice to live in a small town.  We have been loyal customers to Ray’s ever since we moved to the Island.  He is an honorable man who has always served my family well.

The Island is, of course, Merritt Island where we have called home since 1998.  Beautiful place.  We live in paradise. The Island is a bird sanctury.  Peacocks roam wild.  it’s not unusual to see a crane at my neighbors front door.  That crane loves to eat the fish in their goldfish pond. We’ve watched countless rockets and shuttles take off from our driveway. Felt many a sonic booms at landing.  Protected gopher turtles used to lay eggs under our oak tree every year until the hurricaine got the tree.  They have moved their hatching place elsewhere cause the next year after loosing the tree, we found baby gophers walking around our gargage.  Makes you smile to see such nature.  You can find out more about the place we call home at  http://www.lifeonmerrittisland.com/.

Well, back to my day…

Addyson took a short nap.  After the nap, we painted her toe and finger nails.  Addyson picked the fuschia

color from the small collection of nail polishes I have around the house.  This two year old loves to have her nails done.  she sits still with her fingers spread and helps you blow on them.  By then it is 3 o’clock and time to take me to the doctors.  Erin drives me to my appointment in Suntree.  After missing the turn twice (u-turn #1 and #2), we arrive to the doctor’s office as Addyson calls out “Pee”.  Her Mommy hurries inside to  take the toddler to the restroom, while Grandma signs in.

We play on the floor with Lego’s until the doctor calls Grandma inside.  After we finish at the doctors we stop by Publix to get the produce for tacos.  I see a can of potato sticks in the snack isle and ask if Addy had ever tried them.  No, she hadn’t so Grandma opens the can right there and we begin to enjoy a crunchy snack while we grab a few more items.  We all weigh ourselves on the scale.  I top the trio at 126.  Erin is barely over a buck at 103.  Addy is a respectable 28 1/2 pounds.

Erin is driving and talking.  Not the best combination as we are heading to the ocean before she realizes that she missed the turn onto the Island.  (U-turn #3).  We arrive home and before Erin can get the groceries out of the car, Grandpa calls to say he is leaving work.  We enjoy a nice dinner together.    Addyson is starting to miss her Daddy and rub her eyes.   Bed time will soon be here.  I kiss the girls goodbye.
