Ladies Championship Event

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

I am sitting at my summer home in Las Vegas, still pouting that I am not playing over at the Rio.  I am sad to say, I did not get very far in the WSOP Ladies Event. I lasted into Level 4, which is pretty miraculous since I was short stacked and card dead the entire time.

I was seated at table 8, along with the always lovely, Vanessa Rousso and Tiffany Michelle.  I was fortunate to last longer than these two pros.  After they busted, their seats became a revolving door of ladies who would sit down and play a few hands, then bust.  As they busted, I continued to nurse a 1,100 stack.  I would move my small stack all in and the table would fold, so that I could earn enough to post my blinds.  This continued for nearly two hours.  Then when I finally got a real hand, I was called.  I had queens (the bitches, as I call them). My lady in the number four seat had Ace King, so it was an easy decision for her to call.  The ace came out on the flop, but I had already started packing my bag.  Busto!  Those bitches have knocked me out of 50% of my ladies events.  I probably should stop playing them!

NEW TOPIC

Ladies, we are so pleased to announce a new topic to the Academy itinerary it is something we have been working on for sometime and we are going to unveil it during our Vegas Academy.  Other Academies are charging an additional $499 for this very same information/training as an add-on to their other existing Academies tuition which generally start at over $1,000.
Eat, Play, Love
Well Being and the Spirituality of Poker
Poker as we know it is much more than a card game and teaching new techniques, of how women specifically, can get in touch with characteristics within themselves and getting them to use their inner tools more effectively, which is what will make you a better poker player.  Taking life on and off the felt at face value, learning certain techniques to maximize potential and not over analyzing, is what this part of your poker training will prepare you for.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant’, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine.”

Instructor Beth Gains uses these concepts as part of her everyday and poker life.  She has so graciously accepted the invitation to share these concepts with you, to help you improve your life and your poker.  We are excited to have her teach us ways we can improve what we think may be broken or underutilized in our game and using certain tools about life and ourselves to create a new “poker” you.

High Heels Poker Tour heads to Jacksonville

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Ladies,

My good friends at the High Heels Poker Tour and HHPT Academy are headed to Jacksonville, FL later this month.  They will be at Orange Park Kennel Club on May 22-23, 2010 for a HHPT Academy and a HHPT Tournament. (Sorry, guys, this is a ladies only event).

The Academy will be taught by none other than the “Queen of Poker”: Barbara Enright.  The academy was designed for women of all skill levels from beginner to seasoned player. The Academy is taught as a lab based experience, allowing the student to learn by true live hand by hand instruction.  Barbara and the HHPT staff will bring lots of personal interaction to ensure a positive learning environment.  For this event, HHPT is offering a BOGO (Buy One, Get One) deal.   The cost of the Academy for two is $495, which includes your entry into the May 23 tournament, instruction by Barbara Enright, and lunch.  They offer a payment plan, should you desire. Great deal!

Ms. Enright has been playing poker for over 30 years. Her record is unmatched. She is the ONLY women to make the final table of the WSOP Main Event and the only woman in the Poker Hall of Fame, Women’s Poker Hall of Fame, and Seniors Hall of Fame.  When I grow up, I want to be like her!

After the Academy, use your new skills in the $150 tournament.  This ladies tournament is being held May 23 at 1 pm.  Two seats to the WSOP Ladies Event will be given away as the 1st and 2nd second prize and even includes cash for travel ! The WSOP Ladies Event will be held at the RIO, Las Vegas, June 11, 2010.

Vegas Round 2

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

So, round two of the WSOP has come and gone! There was really no news worth reporting during the time I was there, but I felt remissed to post something! Which lead to some of the interesting hands that developed on the second heat.

Event 10:

From middle position, I opened with Q’s for 425 with blinds at 100-200. The only problem was that the blinds were really at 75-150. OOPS! So, now the cut-off, button, and the BB (chipleader) decide to call. Flop comes 6-4-4 with 2 spades and I check with the intentions of raising. Cut-off checks behind, button leads for 1k and BB flats. I make the 5k pop and get the button to fold only to have the BB ask for my stack size. After getting the count BB calls and the turn is the Ad. I fire out another 5k and the BB again calls! So, flat, flat, flat and then the river gives me a 7c. Now I value bet 2,250 and BB puts in 15k. Time to stand and tank for myself. It really took some time to figure this one out. But, realizing that I still have 6,700 behind and we’re still early in the tourney, I call and find that my Q’s were best!

Event 11:
The third hand of the tournament and we only had 5 players at the table. The button opens for 150 and I RR to 500 from the BB with Q’s. He smoothes only to see 7-9-J. I bet 675 and the button calls. Turn…2. I bet 1k and he calls again. The river was another J and I’m screaming inside! Now I check and the button fires out 1,100. I pay him off only to see A-J. I did show my Q’s cause I might as well let them know up front that I’m playing like a girl!

7 p.m. WSOP Nightly:
I heard the play was amazingly bad in the 7 p.m. donkament so I desired to check it out myself. We got to see a lady throw away King’s full of sevens when she saw her opponents AK. She even tried to defend herself by saying that he had the best kicker.

I witnessed another lady in black going all-in anytime she paired on the flop. She was drinking. Not just the occasional drink. She was on her third jack and Ginger before the first break. The words were starting to slur rather quickly. One rather crazy hand saw our drunken lady win with j6h with the board reading 10-A-J-10-6r. Even more amazing was that she was all in on the flop. Then she calls an all-in Pre with KQo. The all-in had jacks and never improved. Our lady would eventually end the tourney for 12 players in the first two levels. Of course, reason would prevail and our lady was busted soon after.

But, that’s enough about the other’s bad play considering it was me who was tilting from 1k. I managed to stay above average all day. I called an all-in for about a third of my stack against this bad guy had previously went all-in w/ Q9, A8o, and one uncontested in last orbit. Now, he’s in cut-off and I’m BB. I have a10o and it’s 12,500 with blinds at 300/600/50. He had 77. I don’t improve.

The next hand had me in the sb with KQo. Good player from button opens for 1525. I call. When will I ever learn I must reraise or fold in this spot!! Time and time I make this same mistake. Flop is Q-10-9 rainbow. I bet 3k and the guy tank calls. Turn K and I shove. He calls w/ broadway. So I end up busto with about half the field left.

Still tilting, I go to the cash game and get an immediate seat in 1/2 thinking this would save me money. I went through 400 before I could type this up between hands!!! I would rebound after many hours of exhaustive play.
And speaking of cash games, last night I had my second ever loosing session at the Rio. The game was so strange. I must get better about table selection or recognizing when to get up from a game. I lost $300 more than I should have. I even remember thinking I should pick up my chips. The standard action was limp, limp, raise, reraise and everybody calls.

2/5 cash game and I buy-in for the max. $500.The hand that would set the tone for the night would be when I saw some random chick open for $25 and I look down at K’s. I pop it to $100 and the chick flats. Flop came J-A-3. Cbet 125 and she flats. Turn is an 8 and we both check. The river 10 gives me the scare. So much so that when she lead out for 100 I was done with the hand. Chick claims she chased the str8. But then a few min later, She leans over and says, “sorry it was u. I’d rather it be the guys.”
