High Heels Poker Tour heads to Jacksonville

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Ladies,

My good friends at the High Heels Poker Tour and HHPT Academy are headed to Jacksonville, FL later this month.  They will be at Orange Park Kennel Club on May 22-23, 2010 for a HHPT Academy and a HHPT Tournament. (Sorry, guys, this is a ladies only event).

The Academy will be taught by none other than the “Queen of Poker”: Barbara Enright.  The academy was designed for women of all skill levels from beginner to seasoned player. The Academy is taught as a lab based experience, allowing the student to learn by true live hand by hand instruction.  Barbara and the HHPT staff will bring lots of personal interaction to ensure a positive learning environment.  For this event, HHPT is offering a BOGO (Buy One, Get One) deal.   The cost of the Academy for two is $495, which includes your entry into the May 23 tournament, instruction by Barbara Enright, and lunch.  They offer a payment plan, should you desire. Great deal!

Ms. Enright has been playing poker for over 30 years. Her record is unmatched. She is the ONLY women to make the final table of the WSOP Main Event and the only woman in the Poker Hall of Fame, Women’s Poker Hall of Fame, and Seniors Hall of Fame.  When I grow up, I want to be like her!

After the Academy, use your new skills in the $150 tournament.  This ladies tournament is being held May 23 at 1 pm.  Two seats to the WSOP Ladies Event will be given away as the 1st and 2nd second prize and even includes cash for travel ! The WSOP Ladies Event will be held at the RIO, Las Vegas, June 11, 2010.

To reserve your seat to the Academy, call 954-817-2992.  Additional information can be found at www.highheelspokertouracademy.com

Wishing the third time was the charm

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

It’s Tuesday and my third day of play at the Beau Rivage Gulf Coast Championship. I have not had any success to write about. I have played three events now and only once got past the dinner break.  It makes me wonder what’s wrong with my game.

I am playing 1/2 NLH right now with my last bit of cash. I have been severely under rolled since I played the WSOP main event. I know I really couldn’t afford to play the main event, but I did it anyway. The main event is THE event of the year.  It was my best chance to further my fledgling poker career. Then I failed to cash. And the footage of me playing on the feature table did not make it to the TV screen. I would have been paid for wearing Full Tilt Poker gear. Thank you FTP for the opportunity!!

I don’t recognize any of the players at my table. The first hand I selected to play is pocket sixes. I am in the cut off. Middle position 2 opens for $10.

The high jack seat calls and I bump it up to $30. Both players call and I flop a set.  It’s checked around to me and I push the remainder of my $100 into the middle. The original opener calls with pocket jacks. I was able to fade the flush draw to double up. The grind is on. I need to earn enough to enter tomorrow’s tournament.

Not having an adequate bankroll can really affect your game.  I find myself leery of playing big pots. I have missed some payoffs because I couldn’t risk my entire stack.

Day 1 of the Venetian Deep Stack $1k

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

There was nothing better than getting back on the horse and riding again after my dissapointing demise at the World Series of Poker Main Event. The only cure for this would be to get in the $1k event at The Venetian. 401 players would enter and 36 would get paid.

I made my way over there after waking up at noon and catching a cab. I would get there with 15 minutes to spare in the first level. Most of the early action was small ball and picking up on people’s patterns.

One hand that happend in the first level would leave me with 37k after defending my BB with K-10h. The preflop raiser would make it 1,100 and get one caller in late position. With my 400 in there I wanted to see a flop which came Qc-Jh-7s. The original raiser made a bet that got the late position player out and we went heads up to the Qh on the turn. At this point I’m putting him on a set and hoping he bets small enough for me to get a look at the river. He oblidges and I call. The river Ah slowed me down cause I only think I have a flush, but am worried that he might have a full house with A-Q. He lead out for 7k (3/4’s pot) and I make the crying call. He flips over pocket Q’s for quads and the table gets juiced from seeing that. Then, I table my cards and the table is now whipped into a frenzy seeing that I have the ROYAL!

Not much in way of huge hands after that. How could I top my first royal flush? I did manage to pick up some nice pots here and there with A’s several times. Including a pot with a mp raise to 1,100. I make it 3k in late position, the button calls, and the original raiser folds. The flop is 8 high and I lead out and pick up the pot.

With the blinds at 400/800 with a 75 ante, this gentleman in seat 4 has been opening to 2,200 anytime he can. He’s been picking up the blinds and ante’s and is building a large stack with every pot. I’m in the BB when he makes the same play and gets a lat position caller. So, I opt to see a flop at a reduced rate with 5-7c. The flop was a monstrous 6c-8c-Qc! I check to the raiser who gets his pot sized bet in. The late player folds and I jam it in the middle. He calls with A-Qo (no club) and I take down a nice pot to get doubled to ~100k.

I managed to pull a few bluffs throughout with one being an 80k pot. And the the speed bump hits me. Utg, I make it 5,300 at the 1k/2k 300 level. It folds to seat 6 who only has 43k and decides to ship it in the middle with 8’s. The door card was an 8 and the rest was no help to me. The good news was that I was at 190k when it happend and I was still in good shape.

We would end the night at 2 a.m. with 50 players and me holding 176k. The average at the end was 125K and we would come back to the last half of the 1.2k/2.4k 300 level.

I managed to hitch a ride back to the Rio with another player named Alex Santiago. He was staying there and offered the ride. It’s much appreciated and he will be compensated with a trip to In-n-Out whenever we get the chance!

The only problem with making day 2 was that I was gonna have to give my seat in the Dream Team Poker Event to someone else. I passed it on to a worthy fill in and they will take this down. I will post more when I hear the results.

all in all, I felt really good to be in contention again. A good chance for me to come out on top after just being on the lowest of lows 24 hours earlier!

The end of the road

Friday, July 10th, 2009

I’m out! I opened with AKo in middle position+2. Got the call from the  Button and BB. Flop came A-Q-8. BB checked and I moved it all-in. The button got out of the way and the BB tabled pocket 8’s to make me extremely sick!
I have to send out a big THANK YOU to everyone for all the well wishes and support through the entire run. I am still gonna play a little longer before I come home, so I hope to be able to send some good news to everyone in the end.

Day 2 is here

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

I just woke up around 11 a.m. pdt and am now preparing for the day 2 festivities. You will find me in the blue section at table 50 which is right near the ropes! Great view for sweat! I will try to keep everyone posted as things come up!

End of Day 1

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

All I can say at this point is that I have 43,175. I promise to get some more details about the days’ play as soon as I get a minute to sit in front of the computer!

The day (1a) has come

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Last night another player asked me if I was getting excited for the start of the main event. I said no and it seems I was lying to myself as well as the guy who was beside him self at the thought of me playing!

For the life of me, I could not fall asleep. Not even with two beers and a sleeping pill. Then, I find myself wide-awake at 7 this morning. Not groggy at all, mind you, just unable to fall back to sleep. So, I called the spa and got their next available massage appointment which was at 10 am. I arrived well over two hours early.

I managed to make good use of my time. Jacuzzi, steam room, fruit plate, and a glass of wine in the relaxation room. All of this topped off by a wonderful massage! Now it’s time to refocus for the long day ahead of me.

I’ll do my best to keep everyone posted via Twitter and the blogs.

Now, time for war.

The last run of the 2009 World Series

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Almost as soon as I got into Las Vegas for the third time, I was getting into the action. The biggest run so far and I am really banking on ending this trip on a rather large positive note!

I began by getting into the $550 mega. They were giving out nine seats and I was really ready to play. Unfortunately, so was everyone else. I ended up getting down to a mere 500 chips at one point and made a rally in the latter stages before the first break, only to come back and get whacked.

It was time to move on to the 5/10 NLH after getting busted from the mega. Throughout the winning session, I’d played 2 hands to show down and both were all-in. The first one was already juicy since the utg player put out the straddle. Action got around to me and I looked down to Q’s on button. I called and the utg raised to $60 after the blinds folded. The limpers folds to me and I re-pop to $160. The Swede (utg) asks how much I’m playing (695 behind) and calls. Flop K-J-8 2 spades and the Swede instantly moves all-in. I call and he loses with A-8 of spades. Swede says he thought he could push me off my hand cause lots of people make that mistake.

Now it’s time to prepare for day 1a of the Main Event. Some relaxation and sleep is definitely in order before I can try and take this one down. One level at a time!

Before I do sign off for the night, I had some people asking me about the glasses I’m wearing whilst in the trenches. They are from Rudy Project which is a company started in 1985 by Rudy Barbazza. I like unique things and these amazing sunglasses from Rudy Project, certainly fit the bill. These glasses are light-weight, the lens’ have the most amazing clarity, and the tint allows me to see well even in the darkest poker rooms.
It’s definitely my way of looking at the world though rose colored glasses.
